Today marks the first round of releases from AMD's new FX line of processors featuring up to 8 true cores of processing power! They appear to live up to their codename "Bulldozer". The FX-8150 is today's top processor from AMD featuring a stock clock speed of 3.6Ghz/4.2Ghz Turbo on demand power and 8 cores with 8MB L2 and 8MB L3 caches retailing at only $245. I say only because an Intel i7-990x which features 6 cores at 3.47Ghz comes in at a price around $999. While the i7 has many advantages if money is at all a concern the AMD line is definitely your bang for the buck choice.
The other upside to AMD is the cross compatbility of processors for future upgrades where as Intel may change their socket layout multiple times within one class of processors leaving you needing to upgrade not only your processor but also a motherboard.
